This past Sunday, our very own Celeste Corless was proudly carrying the Olympic Flame through the streets of Hamilton.
A cold morning did not deter family and many friends from coming out, watching this once-in-a-lifetime experience and cheering her on during her section of the 45,000 km cross Canada journey.
She was selected from thousands of applicants for this honour. How you may ask? Celeste said this before the run:
"When I applied to carry the torch, I was required make a pledge. My pledge was to get as many girls playing rugby as possible. I have taken that pledge seriously and have made great strides toward fulfilling it: I have been working hard with Crusaders Rugby Club to bring more girls to the club and I was recently elected to the Rugby Ontario Board of Directors to do the same with other rugby clubs all over the province.
So when I lift the torch, it will be for all those girls playing, and yet to discover, the great sport of rugby."
All of us are very proud of her for being selected and for having the passion to grow and make flourish the girls side of our game. It was a terrific accomplishment.
Please send your congratulations to
Celeste here.
